Beth
Monts graduated
from the University of Houston/Clear Lake, Houston, Texas
in 1989 Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Accounting. Beth attained her Certified Public Accountant
status in 1992. She is a member of the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified
Public Accountants.
Beth is a member
of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Chi honor societies.
Beth served two terms as President of the Insurance Women
of Galveston County and was voted Insurance Woman of the Year
1987-1988. She is currently a member-at-large for the Federation
of Insurance Women of Texas for which she served as Regional
Director from 1992 to 1994. Beth also served as a Budget/Audit
Committee Member for the Federation of Insurance Women of
Texas from 1995 to 1996.
Beth began her
insurance career in August 1979 with American Indemnity Company
in Galveston, Texas. During her 17 years plus tenure with
American Indemnity Company, Beth, through a series of promotions,
attained the position of Assistant Vice President/Assistant
Department Manager of Financial Accounting. During this timeframe,
Beth was responsible for Statutory and GAAP Financial Statement
preparation, external audit contact, preparation of the consolidated
Federal Income Tax return and various regulatory filings.
She has extensive experience with various investment vehicles
and cash management. Beth also interfaced with data processing
personnel and was responsible for establishing departmental
policy regarding hurricane shutdown and disaster recovery.
In January 1997,
Beth joined The Seibels Bruce Group, Inc., in Columbia, South
Carolina and was appointed Controller in July 1998 through
June 1999. Supervising a staff of 30 individuals, she was
responsible for Statutory and GAAP financial statements for
this insurance holding company that included five property
and casualty insurance companies and one life insurance company
writing in excess of $105 million in Direct Written Premium
in 44 states. In addition to these responsibilities, Beth’s
responsibilities included actuarial reviews, external audits
and department of insurance examinations. She was also involved
with implementation of a proposed Florida homeowners startup
company, QualSure Insurance Corporation, from June 1999 until
early 2000 when she transferred to QualSure. The Seibels Bruce
Group, Inc. represented one of three investors in QualSure.
In February 2000,
Beth joined QualSure Insurance Corporation in Sarasota, Florida
as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary,
and remained in that position until its acquisition of Sunshine
State Insurance Company, a separate startup Florida domiciled
property and casualty insurance company. QualSure assumed
policies from the FRPCJUA and the Florida Windstorm Underwriting
Association, and outsourced policy and claims functions. Beth’s
responsibilities with QualSure included Statutory and GAAP
financial statements, shareholder and Board of Directors reporting,
cash management and investments, strategic planning and budgeting,
reinsurance contract review, Human Resource functions including
payroll and benefits administration, and oversight of the
preparation and maintenance of the Board of Directors and
committee minutes.
Beth joined Gulfstream
in December, 2004 as Vice President, CFO and Treasurer. She
also holds this position for NHI and GMGA.
